The Green Gold of Africa
Three decades of financial deregulation and uninterrupted military conflicts have pushed more than a million farmers in east Africa to engage in the booming trade of khat, a natural amphetamine plant produced in this region. The Green Gold travels along the trade routes connecting Somalia, Ethiopia and Kenya to Europe and the rest of the world, to explore the roots of poverty and underdevelopment in one of the world’s poorest regions.
